I have a 64 bit windows 2008 server and want to setup mirroring and have several questions. I currently have 1 500gb disk. Obviously I need to get another. 1) I've read about how to setup the mirroring and found it mentioned several times that the 32 bit os will only boot from a MBR disk and the 64 bit os will only boot from a GPT disk. I'm running 64 bit server 2008 and as best I ...

how to download audio driver
My notebook just went mute. According to the audio section of the control panel I have no audio device. On the Sounds hardware list, all items are working except the "Conexant high Definition Audio-Venice 5046, location 65535(Internal Definition Audio Bus). It says to reinstall the drivers for this device (Code 18)." Where on Microsoft's download site do I go to download this? I can't fi...

32 bit software sniffs my OS and says phooey
I'm really curious why an application (blackberry sync) checks my OS (x64) and won't load. It doesn't have a driver issue (I already have BB 64 bit drivers), so wouldn't any program just load up and run under WOW? I'll call RIM, which will probably get me to a customer support person who will just say the software isn't supported, but I'd like to understand the issue in a generic 32 versus...

Can't get 32 bit reliability on 64 bit platform
Ok, before I surrender completely and rebuild this machine using 32 bit Vista, I'm wondering if there are any folks who are having success running 32 bit apps on a 64 bit Ultimate OS. If so, I'd like to exchange notes on setup and configuration with you. I'm running 64 bit Vista Ultimate on an Asus P5Q mobo (latest drivers from Asus download) with an Intel Q9450 CPU and 4 GB (2x2048) O...

Anti Virus Recommedations? Tired of AVG8 Free
Hey gang, I am about fed up with AVG8 Free. I guess hard to complain about a free program, but it just keeps getting annoying. I keep getting the red exclamation point on the avg icon in the tray, I open it up and the update manager failed. Last time I went through this, I ended up uninstalling and then reinstalling the program - now it is doing it again. I am having trouble now even ...

Standby woes Redux
A couple of weeks back I posted my investigation regarding standby issues in my PC. Problem was "PC restarts when entering resume". The solution had been based in restoring a good set of BIOS values from a good known stored profile. That didn't last long because a few days later the sudden restarts when entering resume reappeared. I finally could find a workaround for that hardware confi...

Windows Vista 64bit opinion
I am not sure if this is the best group where to ask this, but I was not able to locate a specific Vista 64bit group. Please advice. A friend is updating her PC and asked if I could recommend a new PC for her. She would like it to have Vista Home Premium. I have spotted a few candidates and some of them offer Vista Home P 64bit. Is the 64bit version of Vista ready to be used by a typical ...

Available Memory to 32-Bit Applications
We are running Windows XP64 and we are using 4 CPU machines that have 8GB total. We have a program that was written in 32-Bit code that runs on these computers. It does some complex mathematics and data crunching. Since we have 4 CPUs on this computer, we create 4 separate processes. Our assumption was that each process can have 2 GB worth of addressable space. Since the code is wr...
