Boot from CD won't install XP PRO 64bit
I am trying to install 64bit XP. I have my bios set to boot from CD but it
does not.
I have removed 64bit Vista and reinstalled 32bit XP pro but want to replace
xp 32bit with XP 64bit. I am unsure of how to get my system to boot from the
63bit CD. There was no problem booting to the 32bit CD.
Thanks....

Visual Studio Express on Vista 64?
I tried downloading Visual Studio Express 2005 for C++ on my Vista 64 pc and
it installed but I couldn't figure out how to launch it, there was no exe to
launch it. So I uninstalled and then downloaded the new Orcas one but it
hung on the installation of .net v3.5. Then I tried to just d/l and install
..NET 3.5 on its own and that didn't work either...I'm out of ideas...

dll's are not found although present in path?
Dear all,
I have a win xp (32 bits) application running without any problem on >50
PC's.
This application consists of an executable (in program files) and from
several dll's in %windir%\system32.
The dll's from system32 are found without any problem on win'32 systems.
However, if I launch the exe on the win-64 computer, he claims he can't
find the dll.
Does someone know why???? (...

Support for LBA 64
Currently building a big bucket for HD Video storage. Selecting the RAID
cards I find that to break the 2TB logical drive limit I need an OS that
supports LBA64. Do either
Win XP Pro x64 or Win Server 2003 x64 support this or do I need to go to the
Dark Side, "Linux"...

Wrong Windows 2003 Server version displayed on splash screen
Installed Windows 2003 Server Enterprise Edition 64bit onto a Dell PowerEdge

The installation disks are correctly printed as Windows 2003 Server
Enterprise Edition 64 bit.
However, in boot up the splash screen displays;
Windows 2003 Server Standard Edition 64bit .
Right clicking on MyComputer reassuringly displays

Sleep / standby not returning control
Hi!
I've just installed Vista 64 on a new Xeon quad core workstatation.
I've got two problems.
(The first has to do with IE7 not formatting some web sites - I
posted that in internetexplorer.general, so I won't crosspost here)
When I leave the computer for a while and return, the (dual) monitors
are in standby mode. The computer is running, and I can connect to it
over the network...

CD/DVD no autorun fix
Here's the story (Vista x64)
Both CD and DVD burners would not autorun.
Windows explorer was not even able to show any files on both drivers though
I could easily browse them with ZTreeWin (a file manager).
Nero could burn with both burners successfully.
CD's/DVD's could be read on other PC's or DVD player, but nothing could be
read/autorun on my PC.
I tried disabling and later on re-enab...

I have tried many suggestions from the web including re installing the help
system, but to no avail - the "Help and Support" service does not appear
when I run "services.msc".
Thanks in anticipation,

Will XP 64 install OK?
Probably a weird question but, will XP 64 install and run on my
computer with no problems?
I'm running Vista 64 and all is fine, I have Vista 64 drivers for all
my hardware and the software I've installed is all working after
solving a few minor problems.
But, Vista isn't what I want, too much stuff I don't use and had to
remove, disable, etc. Basically my Vista 64 looks like my X...

Avast Found Decompression Bombs
I ran a scan with Avast home version in normal mode. Avast came back with
about 10 or so results that said, "Unable to scan: The file is a

Safe Mode yesterday and they weren't there.
When I Googled "decompression bomb" I found a post at a forum where someone
said that, "Typically such a bomb is a multi-level...

I have a PC with an Intel EM64T processor and 4GB RAM. Under 'System

I am running a program which inverts a large matrix and want to access as
much RAM as possible. If it has to use the swap file the solution time is

SMTP on 64-bit Vista Business
Hi,
Can anyone recommend a good SMTP server which will run on 64-bit Vista
Business?
I would only need it for software development and testing so free would be
good, but I wouldn't have a problem paying a reasonable amount of money for
a decent product...
Any assistance gratefully received,
Mark

A piece of advice on DX10
I downloaded the "Lost Planet" game demo from NVidia's NZone (www.nzone.com)
in order to test my brand new 8600GTS DX10 capable card.
To my surprise the game wouldn't start, complaining that it was missing a
DX10 dll.
How could that be possible if Vista had DX10 on board from the very start?
It seems that MS does frequently updates to DX9/DX10 but they don't show up
in Windows Update.
