Dual Booting with Vista Home Premium 32 Bit and Vista Ultimate 64-Bit
prasaddevdhar <guest[ at ]unknown-email.com> 11/25/2008 1:43:38 PM
I have my sytem currently with OS of Vista Home Premim 32-bit preloaded with HP Laptop ( Core 2 Duo Processor , 2 GB DDR2 RAM). I want to go with Dual Boot with Vista Ultimate 64 Bit. Is there any problem to go with that? Can I do dual Boot with pre loaded Vista Home Premium? Can Someone Help Me? -- prasaddevdhar

Hi,

Certainly you can do this, and setup should enable the dual boot for you
automatically. Make sure to install to a different volume, preferably one
that's currently empty. As a precaution you should still backup data prior
to starting. If setup does not create the dual boot (and the boot files will
still be on the current system drive), then the additional entry can be
added via bcdedit afterwards.

Remember you need a separate license for each installation. You also will
probably have activation problems. Just because you have both disks doesn't
mean you are legally allowed to install both at the same time.

yes you shoudnt have any problems just rember to create a new partition for the 64 bit version and select that partition when you install it -- chinga69 CHEERS CHINGA69:D :D :D

I created 2 extra partitions - 1 for 64-vista and 1 for data
when I try to boot from 64-bit vista installation disc it looks like it's
going to overwrite the 32-bit version and the 2 new partitions - how do I
prevent that? At what stage does it ask where you want to install 64-bit?

Don’t boot from the 64 bit disk....run the installation while you
are in the 32bit Vista. This way the 64bit will detect the 32bit and create
that
dual boot you are looking for.

Follow the steps and it will ask you where you want to install Vista. You
will not overwrite anything before that. At that point you would be advised
to (select advanced) delete the partition you created for Vista, create a
new partition and format it, then select it as the partition to install on.
Follow instructions from then on.
