error 0x80300025
pixbell <guest[ at ]unknown-email.com> 10/27/2008 7:17:44 PM
In trying to install windows vista on our brand-new, just-out-of-the-box computer, it refused to install. It gave me the error code 0x80300025, saying that it couldn't clean disk 0 because the specified disk did not exist. The error, the message said, occured when it tried to apply <DiskConfiguration>. Any idea of what's causing this? -- pixbell

You would need to tell us the specs of your "brand-new" computer. It would
also be helpful to know what kind of Vista install disk you're using and
how you're attempting the installation. I've installed more operating
systems than I could possibly remember and I've never had one tell me it
couldn't "clean" a disk.

So please try again with more details.

We've tried several times over to install, and we're getting the same message (that Windows can't "clean," or "limpar," since it's in the Portuguese language-- a direct translation might not be working)-- so I'm pretty sure there *is* something wrong. What kind of specs are you looking for? I'm not terribly familiar with hardware or installations, so if I'm missing any vital information, let me know. The computer has an Interl Pentiuam Dual Core and is supposed to run on Windows Vista Home Premium. The Vista Home Premium was supposed to be installed using a Megaware disk in the Portuguese language. We tried to install Windows by turning on the computer with the boot disk inserted, and the computer would start up the installation process. Before long (after loading files, it said), it would bring up the 0x80300025 error and refuse to go any further. -- pixbell

You need to install de SATA drivers for your hard disk(s).

You may wish to post in the Portuguese newsgroup where there won't be any
language barrier. I say this not to offend you in any way, but simply to
make things easier for you.

I don't know what a "Megaware disk" is. Do you have a retail version of
Vista or is it an OEM version that came with the computer?

Aside from the questionable installation media, you may be having issues
with your SATA drive. You may be missing drivers, the cable could be bad,
or the drive itself could be faulty.

If you bought this computer and Vista was supposed to be preinstalled,
contact the seller. If you bought this computer bare bones and purchased
Vista separately, make sure you have any necessary SATA drive controller
drivers. It might be worthwhile to contact the seller in any case. If this
"Megaware disk" is something that came with the computer and is supposed to
be some sort of recovery disk, you most definitely should contact them.

You need drivers for your motherboard's SATA drive controller. Vista comes
with most, but apparently (possibly) doesn't have yours. Since you didn't
address any of the important questions I asked you about installation
media, I can't help you further. Something is wrong but I don't have enough
information from you to pinpoint it.

If you don't know what I'm talking about (and there is no shame in this
since we all have our areas of expertise), then most definitely you need to
take the computer to a professional shop. I don't recommend using whatever
passes for BigComputerStore/GeekSquad where you live. Or take the machine
back to where you bought it.

Thanks to everyone who offered me suggestions! It turns out that the problem was, of all things, an error in voltage (!!). The computer runs on 220v, and we accidentally left the transformer we plugged it into with 110v-- so the computer wasn't getting enough power. It's running well now. You learn something new every day. Thanks again to everyone who tried to help. -- pixbell

Thanks for updating the thread. No one could have ever guessed the solution.
