Fax Installs, deletes CapWx 11/27/2008 2:24:00 AM Greetings I've tried to install the fax applet in Win XP, SP3, using the Add Optional Components in the Control Panel. A dialog box pops up, indicating it is installing the Fax Service, then goes back to control panel. Looking at the "Printers and Fax" section indicates there is no fax installed; reviewing the System Logs show that the Fax applet installs, then immediately deletes itself. Anyone see anything like this? I am logged on as Admin. Running XP Pro, Serive Pack 3, all the latest fixings, 2.6ghz AMD 64, 2mb ram. TIA. CapWx

Choose Control Panel from the Start menu. 2.. Choose Add or Remove Programs. 3.. Click Add/Remove Windows Components to start the Windows Components Wizard. 4.. In the Components list, click to select the Fax Services check box, and then click Next. Windows begins to install the Fax program. If requested, insert your Microsoft Windows XP CD and click OK. (And in this case - a Windows XP CD with SP3 integrated into it.) 5.. Click Finish when installation is through. 6.. Click OK to close any open windows. I received no error messages, simply no fax applet installed. For all intents, on the surface, the system indicated the applet loaded. Yes, I have a Lucent WinModem installed and it's functioning properly. I have dialed out on it; it passed the query tests and Device Manager reports no problems. I have installed the fax applet before on other boxes, I have never seen this particular behavior. If you are interested, I could post the sys log messages. Thanks for the reply.
