Hi:
I have not encountered any computer operational problems related to "jscript.dll" until I tried to run Panda Anti-Rootkit ver 1.08.00 scan tonight.
In the Windows Registry component of the scan it stops at 17% and says PAVARK.exe has encountered an error and needs to close. The Error Signature indicates jscript.dll, version 5.7.0.18066, Offset: 0004546.
I ran a Search and found 3 jscript.dll files of this version. One is in System32 folder, one is in System32\dllcache folder and the other is in KB951978\SP3QFE.
I find all kinds of Registry "Cure All" programs, but I have always been rather leery of them. Is there any known way that I can resolve this issue other than one of the programs as mentioned. They all offer free scans which I am sure they find plenty of issues, but for the fixes you have to purchase etc.
I am running Windows XP MCE SP3 (build 2600) on a Sony VGC-RA716G desktop.
Any help will be appreciated.

Hi Malke:
No I just run routine maintenance with Panda Anti-Rootkit every month or so. I have it on both my desktop and laptop, but the desktop is the only one that I am having the jscript.dll problem with.
Since I only have jscript.dll version 5.7.0.18066 applicable the 3 locations that I listed I tried reinstalling KB951978 and seeing if that would fix the registry error, but it did not.
This makes me feel like the registry problem is now applicable the System32 or System32\dllcache, but again I know of no way to try and fix the problem.
I was hoping for a simple solution; however, there appears not to be one.
Thanks for you comments,
ColTom2

You don't say why you're trying to run Panda's software, but since Panda's software has been problematic on many computers since Win98 I wouldn't bother with it.
Certainly you should stay away from registry cleaners: http://aumha.net/viewtopic.php?t=28099 - registry cleaner thread

Hi:
I posted this problem on CNET Forums (Windows XP) and below is the reply from one of their Moderators named Grif Thomas who had the answer. This solved my problem.
jscript.dll version 5.7.0.18066 Is For XP SP3 ... - New! by Grif Thomas - 12/23/08 11:48 AM In reply to: "jscript.dll" Problem by ColTom2 I just ran the same Panda Rootkit 1.0.8 on this XP PRO SP3 machine and it worked fine with no errors and I also have "jscript.dll version 5.7.0.18066". The important "working" version of that file resides in the C:\Windows\System32 folder but a copy also resides in the C:\Windows\$hf_mig$\KB951978\SP3QFE folder.. You might try renaming the one in System32 and copying over the one that resides in C:\Windows\$hf_mig$\KB951978\SP3QFE. You must do it while is Safe Mode..
After doing so, register the file by clicking on Start-Run, then type this, including the quotes:
regsvr32 "C:\Windows\System32\jscript.dll"
Then click on OK.
Hope this helps.
