Jump Drive ???
"Carol2" <walderac[ at ]NSwah.midco.net> 12/16/2008 10:45:58 PM
I have just purchased an 8 GB Lexar USB drive. It comes with SecureII
software, which is supposed to allow me to encrypt files & Shred sensitive
material (such is my understanding). I don't believe that I would ever need
to transport sensitive material & would probably appreciate the 14 MB space
more. My 1st question......am I right in my desire to eliminate that
folder, freeing up the entire 8 GB space?

Secondly..... My WinXP machine is NTFS format. This jump drive is in Fat32.
Is it possible (or even Wise) to format it in NTFS? Would like to hear any
pros & cons of doing so. I have a 512 MB jump drive that is Fat32, & I'm OK
with that as it is so small.

TIA,
Carol2

You'll gain nothing other than security going NTFS (well - that is unless
you plan on transporting any single files over 4GB in size?)

It's your thumb drive - format it and store on it what you see fit/feel your
needs are. It's not a question of right/wrong. ;-)

I was faced with the same predicament when I obtained a Cruzer USB thumb
drive.

You would be better off going to the Lexar website and see if you can get
the reinstall program for the security part of the drive.

I wonder if you can format the drive to NTSF? If you do succeed, please
post back; it would be valuable information.
