How can I disconnect my Windows XP firewall. I have a program that will
not run until I disconnect the firewall. Thanks.

Its always a good idea to shut down any security to let a program through..
NOT..

What is the name of the program?

Click on Start - Control Panel and what you do next depends on if you have
it set for Category View or Classic View in your control panel. With
Category view, click on the Security Center icon, then click on Windows
Firewall and then click on the Off (not recommended) radio button. With
Classic view, just look for the Windows Firewall icon and do the same as in
Category view.

If you shut off your firewall to enable Limewire to strut its stuff, you are
just asking for trouble..

But it IS what the OP asked. If you have something to add to it, then
why not ADD TO IT, instead of bellyaching like this? You add half a
negative sentence, then wonder why no one heard you; jeez.

I replied to the OP.. look again.. If the OP is asking to do something that
will end in the computer getting infected, you do NOT tell them how to do
it..

Yes, you do, OR you explain why so it's not just a waste of ether. For
all you know, he could be sitting behind a full hardware firewall with
excellent AV et al, and know he's "safe" but not the details of it all
..
The point is; It's not up to you to decide whether the information
you give them will cause them to "getting infected" although there is
nothing wrong in explaining why it MAY BE the wrong thing to do and why
you think that.

You misunderstand what Limewire wants.

You only want to make an exception in the firewall for Limewire. Go back
and read the docmentation. It wants a port opened, it does not need the
firewall disabled, and you should not disable the firewall.

As well, you should be aware that there are a lot of bogus files available
via Limewire, files that are in reality trojans, viruses and assorted
malware masquerading as thingts like MP3 files. And when you go to try
these files, including via the Preview function, you will infect your
system.

If you must use Limewire, never use the Preview. Download files, and do
not run them or attempt to listen to them until you have scanned the folder
with an up-to-date anti-virus program.

I use Windows Firewall & Limewire works through it with no problems.
You need to check the settings.

I quite agree with that, anything downloaded via Limewire has to be treated
with suspicion. And that includes mp3 files.
