Need to repair XP Service Pack 2

I tried to clean my daughter's computer of many viruses with avast4 and
somehow deleted a windows file. XP won't boot up and it gives the error
"BASEWAF32 is missing" "you might have to reinstall this application". I
can't find any reference to this application. How do you reinstall this
without having to do a clean install?
I have the original XP and recovery disks. Yx, Horst.

Repair installation.
(Google that - add the words "Windows XP")

However - you are likely better off taking it to a professional and/or
wiping it and performing a clean installation.

"Many" viruses? How many? If a computer really has a lot of
infections, just cleaning it with an anti-virus is usually not a good
plan, and won't be sufficient. That's one of the very few times when I
recommend doing a clean reinstallation of Windows.
