Vista WMP changes song year tag to 1899
guiCookie 12/30/2008 5:23:01 AM
I have Vista Home Premium WMP 11. When I play a song that has the correct
year stored in the metadata, the year usually changes to 1899. To reproduce
this: 1) Play a song. It does not have to finish. 2) Close WMP. I can stop
playing the song first, but I don't have to. 3) Reopen WMP. Use the "Add to
Library..." feature to scan for new/updated tracks. 4) After (or possibly
during) scanning, the year on the played song(s) changes to 1899.

Since the displayed album year seems to use the date of the first track, I
used Foobar to verify that the year changed for later tracks. The changing
year occurs on most, but not all, of my songs. I think it only changes on
songs with album art embedded in the tag. I tried a few albums with and
without embedded art to test and verify that. Is there a hotfix or workaround
(besides not embedding album art)?

I have noticed this behaviour in case of
- year below 1900
- year tag contaning non numeric values

1899 is new to me.
What version of WMP are you using?

The version is 11.0.6001.7000
This occurs even on files that had the year tag entered by the "find album"
feature, so there aren't any non numeric values. When I searched on Google
and Live Search, I only saw one or two people on forums who had this same
issue, and neither had found a solution.
