How to Publish my windows media player output?
Sergio Torres 12/29/2008 11:12:04 PM
I used to be able to publish my Windows XP Pro PC's windows media output to
my windows server 2003 and then load the stream from a web page. I saved my
session configuration to a file.

I changed to Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bits. Installed Windows Media Encoder
64 bits. My Sound Blaster sound card is correctly recognized by Vista.

I Tried to use the saved session configuration and I received the following
errors:

Error 1: "No specified device driver is present (0xC00D0072)."

Error 2: "The media input 'device://SB Live! 24-bit' for source 'Live' is
not valid."

If I create a new session, the only thing I can publish is my microphone
sound (If I talk into the microphone my voice is herad in my web page
stream).

If I choose any of the other available sources (auxiliary, Line-In,
S-PDIF-In) no sound comes out, even though my windows media player is playing
a song. The encoder publishes, but publishes silence.

Furthermore, If I click on the Mixer button in the audio panel from my WME
x64, I get the following error message:

"The mixer application 'sndvol32.exe' could not be started
The system cannot find the file specified. (0x80070002)"

Apart from making sure you have 64-bit driver software for the sound
card - the Audacity wiki pages have useful info on configuring sound
devices in vista for recording generally (i.e. not just Audacity
specific) :

http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php?title=Windows_Vista_OS#Mixer_Toolbar_has_no_recording_sources

The info there might also indicate why sndvol32 isn't going to work
out (apart from it being a 32 bit program ;-)

You definitely want to right-click the sources listed on the recording
tab and select to "Show Disabled Devices".

When I did this, I had several expected recording sources which
weren't present (disabled by default) such as the Stereo Mix source
which is probably what you want if you're trying to record the audio
output from tracks playing in media player

Thank you Neil,

I read the web page you suggested, but I already had all devices shown.

Nevertheless, the driver for my sound card is 32 bits. I followed your
advice and updated it. Although it's still 32 bits, it showed me a new device
called "what you hear" and this one I can publish.

Thank you again,
