Cannot share audio media with WMP 11
GTP99red 12/28/2008 4:10:05 PM
I cannot get WMP 11 to share. I believe it "thinks" it is sharing but it
does not work. The share source computer is running XP Pro 2002 SP3.
Ultimately I am trying to stream to a Netgear MP101 which indicates there is
no server found. I am trying to get it to work with a laptop running Vista
and WMP11 with no luck (no music shows up in the library view). The share
source WMP has sharing turned on and shows the laptop and the MP101 as
enabled. The music is located in My Music and shows up in the monitored
folders list. I have the My Music folder shared and it shows up on the
laptop as a share that I can open and view the mp3s. Wmpnetwk.exe is running
as well as UPnP Device Host. IPSEC Services is running but terminating it
does not help. Both PCs are using windows built-in firewall only and
disabling both makes no difference. The MP101 is connected to the source PC
via a wired network using a Netgear router and the laptop is connected via
wireless to the same router. I believe the network is functioning correctly
- point in case - I can stream audio using the TwonkyMedia server software
with no problems (except I don't like it and want to use WMP) and I can ping
both devices. I have searched the internet and microsoft exhaustively and
found nothing that seems to help so I am at the end of my rope. I have also
tried reinstalling WMP11 from a fresh download (12/27/08). Any suggestions
would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

It does sound like you've tried most of the appropriate steps.

You definitely need IPSEC off, and to *reboot* : "IPSEC Services
should be configured to start manually and you should restart your
computer", according to the FAQ.

Also check HTTP SSL service is enabled and running on XP

Neil - Thanks for the reply. I set IPSEC to manual, set HTTP SSL to
automatic, did a reboot and still no sharing. Just in case I checked and
IPSEC was not running and HTTP SSL was. I'm stumped.
