Duplication of songs take place if you have multiple files (of the same song) in your hard drive. You can prevent the duplication by removing the real duplicated files. I should think that not all songs are located in one place. And after that, you can re-index your library to make a fresh list.
P.S. There is a software to find duplicated entries. Try to find it on the Internet
