Recorded OTA 1080i HD program in vista media center but shows 720x480 resolution
cfcFutbol <cfcFutbol.3hy6w5[ at ]no-mx.forums.vistaheads.com> 10/27/2008 4:16:18 PM
I know for sure the over-the-air HD channels (ABC, NBC, CBS...) are broadcasting in 1080i and have verified this with another tuner/recording program and with the tv's hd tuner... The DVR-MS files show 720x480 when I open them in windows 'media' (http://www.vistaheads.com/forums/#) player and view the properties. Any ideas? Shouldn't 1080 content be recorded as 1920x1080? The ATI catalyst media center does record at 1920x1080 in mpeg format, but I would rather use VMC. Did I set up VMC wrong? I've looked everywhere in VMC but can't make it to record 1080 resolution. Thanks in advance for any help you can give... -- cfcFutbol Posted via http://www.vistaheads.com

ABC, and FOX broadcast OTA in HD in 720p. CBS and NBC broadcast in 1080i.
There are a few ABC affiliates that broadcast HD in 1080i.
VMC will record in the format received by your tuner it does not change the
resolution of what is received.
What tuner are you using to record your OTA broadcasts and and how is it
configured to its source?
What is the size of one of your one hour DVR-MS files?

The software that comes with the tuner records fine at 1920x1080 in MPEG-2 format. However, when i use Vista Media Center to record the same channel, the file shows resolution of 720x480 :(. I have a DVR-MS file that contains one hour of the Survivor Gabon from CBS, it is about 7.5Gb. -- cfcFutbol Windows Vista-64 Ultimate + SP1 AMD Athlon 64 3000+ ASUS A8N-SLi Deluxe 4Gb DDR PC3200 nVidia GeForce 256MB 7300GS Western Digital SATA II ViewSonic 19" widescreen DVI AverTV HD Volar (HDTV tuner) Posted via http://www.vistaheads.com

The I believe it is an outstanding MC bug reporting the wrong resolution in
the DVD-MS file since based on file size you have a 720p or 1080i recording
that was never fixed after MC permitted recording of HD files.. A 720x480
one hour file would be about 2GB.
