Venders are required to give you a way to reinstall Windows or do a factory restore. The vendor might provide you with recovery discs or the laptop manufacturer might provide you with such if you contact them. Many computer do not come with actual Windows install CD's anymore rather you are given an option to create a restore CD set yourself. This option might be available through the Control Panel. Some venders simply provide a recovery partition that is accessed by pressing a key combo during computer start up. It could be F11. If you have no other option you might be able to use the Product Key that is on a sticker on the bottom of the laptop with another OEM version of XP Home Edition. If a friend has an OEM version of XP Home you could try using it with your Product Key. To see if that works boot the computer to the Desktop, insert the OEM XP Home CD. Select the option to install. Enter your product key (not your friend's key) and click OK. If your key is not accepted you will be told that it is invalid. If your Product Key is accepted you can cancel the process with no harm done and then boot the computer with the CD and do the fresh install. The retailer is not required to give you a CD, but he *is* required to give you a way to reinstall Windows (normally a restoration partition). Contact him to find out exactly what you should do. Unless you purchased the laptop used, you probably don't need to reinstall Windows. What is your actual problem?
