sleep mode
td88 12/11/2008 7:21:02 PM
My sleep mode has spontaneously started invoking every 30 to 60 seconds.
Annoying. I've gone to desktop/properties/screen saver and found the time set
to 60 seconds, which is not a setting I made or changed.

I changed it to 5 min.'s. Will this present any problems? Overheating, etc.?
If not good, can you recommend a time?

I have a one year old hp xw 4400 with windows xp 32 bit .

Thanks

You're talking about the screen saver. Actually if you are using a LCD
monitor and not a CRT monitor, you can disable the screen saver entirely.
The mail reason it's there is in the earlier days when CRT type monitors
were the norm, displaying a constant image on it would eventually burn it
into the screen phosphors. Modern LCD monitors don't have that problem, so
a screen saver isn't really needed.

Sorry, Roy, I'm a stone age CRT user. Any problems with my setting in that
case?

Thank you.

One of my desktop PC's is still using a CRT monitor, so don't feel bad. As
for the time, sure that's fine, you could make it a little longer too, like
say 10 minutes or so.

Hi td88,

I suppose you are talking about screen saver yeah? you could disable it as
said earlier, but my take is to turn it the screen off for interval of 3
minutes of idle time? This is especially true if you are planning to have
your LCD monitor working for long time (more than 4 years). Though the
monitor will not burn out like CRT as before the live pixels may deteriorate.
But if you are planning to change your machine in 3-4 years, you can just
turn it on always.
