Sorry if this is not the proper NG but I tried a Windows Forum for ISP's = & connectivity, & of course have dealt with AT&T too many times to count = & am fed up with them.=20
so maybe someone here has had similar issues. Or maybe you can point me = in the right direction.
I have the Motorola 2210 Modem
I have 1 phone hooked up to one jack & this PC/Modem to another. I have = a filter on the phone end only as when trying the filter on the PC end = too, it has never worked.
There is no Router. No other user. It's a basic 1 PC set up. I have a = 40" phone line running from the wall jack into this room - no = connectors, just one 40' line. It does not cross or run parallel any = other AC lines.
It may work properly for a week or more, than I cannot get connected = for several days at a time.
Now, last night & this AM, I get only the first 3 green lights, from = the left, on & blinking & occasionally the 3rd light blinks red. then = back to blinking green, but obviously the last 2 lights do not light up = & I cannot get connected.
I have checked all the cables & all is good & connected.
I tried the IE7 "Diagnose Connection Problems" & below is the = Diagnostic Log before I tried anything - like disconnecting the Modem & = resetting it.
There are 2 sections that indicate something tho' I am a neophyte so = don't know what it is telling me.
Here is a Paste of the entire Log you can see the Red bordered issues = - 2nd from top & all the way at the bottom. & in various other Green & = Purple bordered sections, you can see the "warn" in the left column.
I will Send this to Post, tho' since I am not connected, not sure when = it will Post.
Many thanks,
Dallas

You are quite right - this is not the proper newsgroup for this question as it has nothing to do with Windows XP. A much better venue for you would be one or more of the forums at www.dslreports.com.
A few thoughts:
1. The normal DSL set up is:
a. Two-part filter at the phone jack. One connection is for a telephone (optional) and one connection is for the DSL cable. The DSL cable terminates at the DSL modem.
b. Single-part filters go in every phone jack that is for the telephone number shared by the DSL connection.
c. An ethernet cable runs from the DSL modem to the computer's network adapter connector. No PCI modem (in the computer) is involved at all.
2. I don't get what you have a 40" - or 40' since you wrote it both ways - phone line in this equation at all. You can plug the DSL modem into any phone jack in any room.
If you aren't conforming to the normal DSL setup described in Item #1 above, that's probably why you are having connectivity issues.

For what it's worth ATT isn't worth a darn even on dialup using Winxp. They just keep dropping the connection. Good luck.

Time to try a new ISP? Is there a cable tv company in your area that offers an internet connection via a cable modem? I struggled with AT&T using dial-up for years and my lack of connectivity was never their fault, it was always my fault. I switched to a local cable company and have very few problems connecting using a cable modem. Sorry I can't be more help but sometimes you got to change the way you do things.

Thanks & you're right JD as it may be time; in fact, I have started searching & am going to contact DirecTv as I use their satellite signal for TV - it may be too much for my fixed income budget, but will check.

Thanks & I know it doesn't as I wrote a disclaimer as such but figured everyone has an ISP.
1a - as I said, I have a single line filter on the phone, which is in the kitchen & no filter on the wall in the bedroom where the DSL is plugged in, using a 40 foot phone line
1b - as i stated, w/ a single line filter on the dsl in the wall, it doesn't work at with one, so i tried several & same result so i removed it
1c - yes, i know where the Ethernet goes & i never said it's an internal modem, rather, it's the Motorola 2210 modem
2 - see 1a
thanks but all is as you say, except the filter allows nothing to connect from the bedroom jack, so i removed it & it works, when it does, or else, nothing w/ the filter

What phone line? What does the phone line have to do with your DSL? Perhaps you mean the special DSL cable instead.
> 1b - as i stated, w/ a single line filter on the dsl in the wall, it > doesn't work at with one, so i tried several & same result so i removed it
You need the double-line filter connected to the phone jack where the DSL cable goes, not a single. The DSL cable goes in one connector and a regular phone cable can go in the other.
> 1c - yes, i know where the Ethernet goes & i never said it's an internal > modem, rather, it's the Motorola 2210 modem > > 2 - see 1a > > thanks but all is as you say, except the filter allows nothing to connect > from the bedroom jack, so i removed it & it works, when it does, or else, > nothing w/ the filter
I'm not convinced you have this set up correctly, however it will be impossible to troubleshoot it without being on-site. You may also have a faulty phone line which will definitely cause issues with DSL. If you have an older house, check with your telephone company.
Otherwise, either have a local computer tech come out or post in a more appropriate forum such as DSL Reports. This is not a Windows issue.
Sorry, but I don't have anything further to add so EOT for me.

I am sure he is referring to the telephone cable (quite long!) running from the wall outlet to the DSL modem.

I've never seen one of those. What I have is a DSL modem that has an outgoing port for a telephone (presumably with a built-in filter). Of course, connecting a phone to the DSL modem is optional.

thanks malke & as daave stated, it is the phone line running from the room where the modem is, to the other room where the jack is. > >> 1b - as i stated, w/ a single line filter on the dsl in the wall, it >> doesn't work at with one, so i tried several & same result so i removed >> it > > You need the double-line filter connected to the phone jack where the DSL > cable goes, not a single. hmm, yes, i know, but as i think i said, the modem is connected to the wall jack with no phone involved, as the only phone is to the kitchen jack > >> 1c - yes, i know where the Ethernet goes & i never said it's an internal >> modem, rather, it's the Motorola 2210 modem >> >> 2 - see 1a >> >> thanks but all is as you say, except the filter allows nothing to >> connect >> from the bedroom jack, so i removed it & it works, when it does, or else, >> nothing w/ the filter > > I'm not convinced you have this set up correctly, however it will be > impossible to troubleshoot it without being on-site. i know as again, everyone has an isp - thanks anyway as i made it quite clear on more than one ocassion; a phone in the kitchen, the modem in a bedroom, connected to a wall jack in another bedroom, so i have it hooked up correctly.
also, it just disconnected agaion, so i tried to reset it, but no luck, tho' when i call their service line, it usually reconnects & it did - this is the odd part !
eot ? aok !
