How to export to drive:\music without creating a tree in it?
savoiu 12/29/2008 5:01:01 AM
WMP allows me to export to \music but insists on creating a directory
structure in there based on artist/album? Can I stop that so that all the
files just go into drive:\Music?

Thanks,
Nick

Not really - and imagine if you have 2 files called "Always in love" -
now what's the player supposed to do - overwrite one by one artist
with the same named track by a different artist ? Imagine how many
users would be pissed off by that happening ;-)

So I guess the real question is, why do you want or need to do that -
WMP library search should easly help you to locate any one track by
starting to type its name into the Search... box

I see what you're saying but that should not be an issue in my case since the
files are named accorgind to artist/album/track.

The reason why I want them all in one directory is that my MP3 player is a
bit brain dead and does not know how to randomly play tracks across folders.

Thanks,
Nick

OK let's try another route , now we have better info about your
intended use :

If you go to the Sync tab with the MP3 player plugged in, then click
the small dropdown menu below that, choose <device name> Advanced
Options : Untick "Create folder heirarchy on device"

That would usually dump all files into a single folder on the MP3
player, and by your description of it, should then be able to shuffle
all the files - cause they're only transferred into a single folder on
the device.

To do this step you *may* have to format the device and/or remove any
existing sync relationship WMP has with it (same submenu of the Sync
tab)

Hi Neil,

I could do that but then I'm limited to 99 files as that's the upper limit
for the device's root directory.

OK, sounds like you have a poor choice of device then ;-)

I'm not sure there's much else you can do, as your requirements
conflict with each other (everything in device/Music but everything >
99 files cannot be achieved on the device !)
