Attempt to convert avi file to wmv with Windows Encoder 9 are fail
EamonX1 12/18/2008 6:01:01 PM
I am following the instructions in help to convert an avi file on my hard
disk to the wmv format. However what I end up with, after 2 or three hours of
'convverting', is an wmv file which is about 50 or 60 k in length (takes
three seconds to play). The length of the file should be about 600 mb or
more. What am I doing wrong?

Probably you don't have a DirectShow decoder for the video contained
in the AVI file. What does GSpot list as the decoder required for
playback ? http://www.headbands.com/gspot/

I've seen multiple failures with MPEG2 video in any container before
which can make the encoder apparently sit there but not convert.

Usually you'd see something in the Error panel of the encoder after
attempted encode which sheds some light - an 8 character error code
and a specific message. CTRL + L for error log and CTRL + R for
encoding reasts (or from the View menu in the encoder)
