It's possible that this request didn't receive a response because it's not the kind of technical request that generates the best results. My immediate impression was that this doesn't show you're willing to spend the time on the request, while asking for the community's. Accidental or not, in the future, it may be useful to specify operating system, whether you have onboard or add-on sound, who made the sound device, the brand of your computer, if it's a laptop or a desktop, and anything else that might be relevant to understanding your setup.
That said, with the information available, the very first thing a tech support rep should check is "the wires." Do the speakers require power? Do they require batteries, even if plugged in? Are the speakers plugged into the correct port on the back / side / front of your computer, depending on which kind of computer you have? Is the wire appropriate between the speakers, assuming they're not wireless? Does Sound Recorder do anything promising? (The reason I'm here is that my sound is working fine yet Windows tells me there's nothing installed. Some things work, some don't) Is the volume up to a reasonable level on your speakers? Is "mute" set in your sound properties? Is the volume at a reasonable level in sound properties? (without knowing your OS I can't guide you there). If you have a laptop, is there a volume control on the front/side/elsewhere on the computer that might be affecting sound? Do internal speaker(s) work, if you have one (them)? Have you installed the latest drivers applicable to your operating system and computer? Finally--and this can be the most dangerous to do without expert assistance--does your computer have the latest BIOS update?
Those are the basic questions that need to be answered before your problem can be approached. It may be software, or hardware, and the system troubleshooter is apparently giving you an all-clear...so perhaps it's hardware.
That said, regardless of adding desktop speakers, I don't know if that means desktop or laptop, and if you have onboard speakers and if sound works without the externals. If the speakers fail to function, but your computer's sound works, you should probably contact the speaker manufacturer or place of sale, if it's a retail electronics outlet of some sort. Headphones can also be diagnostic, especially if your volume is extremely low since they're so close to your ears. Finally, if your computer is new enough that it's under warranty, you can also try calling your computer manufacturer, who should provide you with support.
Good luck.
