I am using Windows XP Pro and current with all updates. Windows Live Mail Version 2009 (Build 14.0.8050.1202).
Now I had to reinstall the operating system, did all the updates and then I copied my "USER" folder back into the "Documents And Settings" folder then reinstalled Windows Live Mail. Before and still the entire line would be "bold" to indicate a new message. Before, once the "mail" is read all the letters would go "normal". Now, once the "mail" is read, the letters in the from column are normal and the letters in the Subject column and Date column are grayed out/faded, but otherwise seem normal when a line is highlighted, still searchable, etc.
Is this a "bug" or did I do something improperly when copying back my user folder.

Correction.
Unread: From is Bold, Subject is Normal, Date is gray

No "bug", unfortunately. :-( Microsoft's GUI designers apparently imbibed too much holiday cheer too early. -- Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP (Mail)

Is it up for a fix. Is hard to read

The behavior is different when reading newsgroups. Unread posts, the From field is bold and all other fields are normal. When read, the From field is normal and all other fields are gray. -- Ronald Sommer

I hear you loud and clear. I've made the same point here shortly after the new build was released. The designers forgot that not everyone has 20/20 vision. Us older folks especially have trouble distinguishing different shades of gray.

This is the reason I continue to use Windows Mail rather than WLM. Can you suggest the proper folks to complain to at Microsoft? I will be happy to give them my comments.
Thank you, Gary, for all you do to help us. It would seem that Microsoft would place more value on your suggestions than they do.

Strangely enough, MS closed the beta testers' bug reporting channel a week or so before the latest WLM build was released. Several recently added changes, like the graying out of the subject line, and only bolding the 'From' field, were never shown to the beta testers prior to release. One has to wonder what the point of having beta testers is...
I only know of the feedback channel open to the general public: https://feedback.live.com/default.aspx?productkey=wlmaildesktop

I forwarded this thread to some of my team members today. I can't guarantee anything will change in the next version, but I'm sure we'll revisit the visuals, at least for discussion.
