1: Did you use the Norton removal tool? If not, please do.

Download and run the Norton Removal Tool:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039

Symantec uninstaller may not finish the job:
http://windowssecrets.com/comp/080207#story1

2: Create a new identity and see if the newsgroups respond correctly.

You may have a damaged identity especially if it is the default Main
Identity. File | Identity | Add New Identity. Create a new one and test it.
If all is well, you can import your messages and Address Book from the old
identity and delete it.

Now you're not even using OE!...

That is correct. I created another identity and everything worked in OE....
until I tried to export/import from the old to the new. Then I got an error.
Going to MS's support site, they suggested I go to their new email program
rather than go through a complete reinstall, which I did. I'm still not sure
how much I like it thought that may just be resistance to change. I spent quite
a while trying to configure it as much as possible to resemble Outlook Express.

To think all this mayhem was started by my antivirus program. Some years ago,
McAfee boogered up Outlook Express and I switched to Norton's; never to return.
Now Norton's has managed to booger up OE and I gave them both the heave-ho. I'm
hoping I'll have good luck with Avast and Windows Live Mail.

Anyway, thanks for the help over the years.

If you fixed the date on your computer you might allow the rest of us to
catch you up!

You're seeing no newsgroups messages because the rest of us are in
December!

Views no longer work properly
"Mortimer Schnerd, RN" <mschnerdatcarolina.rr.com> 1/5/2009 4:28:28 AM
I recently went through the ordeal of trying to update Norton's Internet
Security which caused multiple lockups. I ended up having to do several hard
reboots which I am afraid have corrupted parts of OE. I ended up requesting a
refund from Symantec and going with Avast. Since that time, my newsgroups are
acting weird.

I generally use a view which states that if a newsgroup message is more than 1
day old, has been read or ignored, it should be hidden. It's always worked
great in the past. Now, I don't see any messages when I use the view, although
I certainly download new ones. (I can see the new unread ones by going to the
"show all messages" view.

I went to the trouble of unsubscribing to my newsgroups, then resubscribing and
catching up... a real PITA. No joy. Anybody have any ideas how to correct this
problem? I'm running XP Pro SP3 and OE 6.00.2900.2512.
