Heterogenous Tuner Question
TriviaBuff 12/16/2008 5:08:01 PM
Hello,

I have a dual tuner (analog and digital) card. I've done a channel scan, and
I've picked up channels from both tuners. I've used the Channel Guide to
merge the analog and digital channels together and selected the digital tuner
as preferred in the sources list.

Here is my question / problem. While watching Live TV, there have been
occasions where the digiital signal has been lost. I would expect the Live TV
to switch over to the analog signal from that same channel. Instead, all I
get is dreaded "No Signal" error.

Is there a way that I can configure the heterogeneous tuner support so that
it automatically chooses the other tuners in Live TV when the preferred tuner
shows "No Signal"?

Many thanks,

TriviaBuff

No, if you're running Media Center. If you're using some other application
then you'll have to contact the software's manufacturer for information on
this.

I don't think any tuner manufacture does or could support your desire since
a Digital signal broadcaster can have multiple different sub channels only
one of which would correspond to his analog channel and since his OTA analog
channel will be going away next February.

Thanks for the reply.

Yes, I understand your argument about the different sub-channels carrying
different programming. But I have manually merged the analog and the digital
channels that run the same programming so that it shows up only once in the
program guide. I'm able to configure which channel is "preferred" - usually
the digital signal. But, in some cases, the digital signal fades or the local
station has a hiccup so the digital signal drops, even though my analog cable
signal is still rock solid.

What I'm trying to say is that it would be nice if the "Live TV"
functionality realized this and flipped over to the analog signal instead of
displaying the "No TV Signal" error from the digiatl tuner.

Also, since I am an analog cable customer I expect to continue receiving
analog signals well beyond February 2009. ;-)
