Ok, My system does a little weird and I whant to do a REFORMAT, but I
only have a vista RECOVERY disk. Does this mean that, when i use my XP
disk to remove my partitions, that I can't install vista anymore?
Do I really nead a vista install disk for this or can I does my
recovery disk only look at my hardware, to make sure I'm not just
installing on a PC witch is not meant to get vista for free. I know
there is a anoying big difference between a install disk and a recovery
disk.
Or is there a (meybe not so legal) wat to convert my recovery disk to
an install disk? I bought this PC with vista and I dont whant to buy it
like a second time...
anyone?

No you do not need to use your XP cd.
Just boot with your Vista recovery disk and it will reinstall Vista as new.
Be sure your data is backed up first as the recovery DVD will overwrite all that's there

Buy a second copy or stick with what you have. You don't want the headaches.

thank you for your reply, I dont whant to reinstal I really whant to
REFORMAT I verry mutch believe there is a difference :p
The last time I did it just the way you describe, but there apeared to
be files in my partition that were there before the instalation and that
do not belong to vista, becouse I put them overthere... (boot files for
XP to be exact, I used to dualboot)
So this must mean it didn't reformat at al. I was thinking to remove
partitions with the XP disk and use the recovery disk of vista to create
new partitions. But I read somewere else, that you need certain files on
your HD to be able to use your vista recovery disk... I asume everyone
knows the difference between install disks and recovery disks? Anyway, I
dont like to be stuk without vista. I got 4 G of ram and the only way to
be able to use it all is using vista...

You can use all your memory with XP X64 also, but you should have no problems creating the new partition with XP, but do not format it. Use the Vista disk for reformatting the partition. Most recovery disks do a complete wipe and creation of the partitions formatting and installing Vista with the appropriate drivers for the computer for which it was designed. What are you referring to as a Vista recovery disk. Microsoft does not provide one. If you have one from the OEM, it probably has their drivers slipstreamed on the disk.

so i can try removing the partitions with the xp disk and creating new
not formated ones, without being afraid to make my recovery disk
unusable? I believe I only have the lower bit version of XP or can you
change it before installing? Or do I need an other XP cd if I need that?
Well my recovery disk only allows 3 options. Complete reinstall, the
same on first partition or complete reinstall with 2nd partition. I was
thinking it reformatted, but then I found some old XP files...

Partitions are neither 32 or 64-bit. They just are. Vista will format NTFS (quick).

I dont think you understand my question. I heared that a vista RECOVERY
disk needs to have certain files in a hidden partition in order to work,
because otherwise it might be installed on 'the wrong pc' since
microsoft would not like a recovery disk making it easy to install
windows on multiple pc's. But I whant to do a complete reformat. Would
deleting the partitions with my XP(INSTALL)cd (were I CAN change
partitions) make my recoverydisk useless?

No. You heard wrong. The whole point of making (or ordering) physical restore disks from the OEM is to be able to restore the system onto a new baremetal hard drive.
