Force DHCP Discover on reboot.
Andrea Valori 12/23/2008 9:53:04 AM
Hi everyone,
I have a problem with dhcp client in xpe; if my device obtain an address
from a dhcp server, the next reboot it doesn't perform a discover on the
network but only it tries to request the same previous ip address; if the
dhcp server change, this arises to me a problem because the process to obtain
a new ip involves too much time and DUAgent fails to retrieve updates from
the new server. I can't use FBWF or EWF to protect the registry from writing
dhcp values and I can't perform a ipconfig /release on shutdown using
shutdown scripts because it remove the lease on the server/router. I try to
monitor what the ipconfig /release do in registry but I can't find the key or
keys that tell to dhcpservice to start with a discover message on next
reboot. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance, Andrea Valori.

I don't understand why "ipconfig/release" doesn't solve your problem. You
say "it remove(s) the lease on the server/router" which is a statement I
don't understand. It does remove the lease on the DHCP address but that is
exactly what you want since if the lease is removed or expired the DHCP
client will start with a discover rather than a request after the next boot.
