RE: HOTMAIL ICON

To all who kindly responded to my Hotmail icon query:
Thank you all so very much I am now going to try to do
all the things suggested and see what happens.
It is a URL file but I don't want my IE to open it (does that
make sense VanguardLH?)
Well here goes.
RE: HOTMAIL ICON
Donna 12/17/2008 7:58:02 PM
None of the suggestions given to me worked. The icon remains the same and will
not change!!

Did you start a new thread? There are two replies to your original
thread: Re: HOTMAIL ICON ON DESKTOP

I'm not saying they're going to work but you're this far into it, what's
one more little try or two? ;-)

Let's put this one in the too hard basket!
Can you delete that Icon, and start again!

Someone must have an answer for this!

What exactly do you mean by "I don't want my IE to open it"? That only makes
sense, as you've written it, if you're wanting to open Hotmail with a web
browser *other* than Internet Explorer, such as Opera or Firefox. That would
be a horse of another colour, Dorothy. Is that the case?

RE: HOTMAIL ICON
Mick Murphy 12/18/2008 11:16:01 AM
Donna, I just went to www.hotmail.com

I opened my account, then right-clicked(the center of the page, a no text
spot)>Create Shortcut> clicked YES to desktop shortcut.

Desktop Icon>right-clicked Properties>Change Icon> I selected one from the
page in front of me(Shell32.dll)>clicked OK to close that window> then Apply,
and OK to get out of the last Window.

It works.

The plot thickens.

Re: HOTMAIL ICON
Donna 12/18/2008 9:33:01 PM
I have finally figured out why I cannot change the icon
My hotmail icon takes me directly into my hotmail account, I don't have
to sign in or enter a password - I go directly to my email inbox thus
this shortcut icon is password and account sensitive and it CANNOT
be changed unless I create a new shortcut which takes me to Hotmail to sign
in but I prefer being able to get to my inbox rightaway so I will now just
leave
it as is and continue on with my life,
Thanks to all who tried to help.

Re: HOTMAIL ICON
Mick Murphy 12/19/2008 6:18:00 AM
That is not the reason for it, Donna.
The exercise I did yesterday(posted here) with a shortcut was with the
signed-in hotmail account for me.
And I could change the Icon to suit me.

Man you are killing me here, the fact is I cannot do it nor can the company
we purchased this computer from as I went step by step over the phone
with them and they could not open it either.
Do you have IE7? Does Google have anything to do with it?
Anyway lets just let it be cause my hubby says that I am communicating
more with you guys and gals than with him. Poor baby
You have a terrific xmas or whatever holiday you celebrate I don't drink
alcohol so if you do please have one for me
Happy New Year and so many thanks
