Windows Defender (Vista) keep being told to Check for new definitions "Dave Horne" <davehorne[ at ]home.nl> 12/19/2008 10:20:38 AM I am using Vista Home Premium, SP1, with the latest updates for WU and Defender .... I think. I see the orange oval with the black exclamation mark on the Windows Defender System Tray icon and am asked to check for new definitions. I do, there are no new definitions and yet I keep seeing that exclamation mark advising me to do something. I did a scan, rebooted the computer (even though I was not advised to do so), and I still see this message. Just me? Suggestions? Thanks, Dave Horne

That did the trick. I never had to do this before. Has something changed? Will I now always have to manually update Defender? I had to go to the recommended site and update manually also. The only change to my system was the IE7 update on 12/17, but correlation is not causation. I hope this was a one-time occurrence.
