How to delete OneCare Backup from External drive?
"McLaren" <mclaren[ at ]uni.net> 12/1/2008 5:28:59 PM
Hi,
I'm trying to delete an old OneCare backup from external drive
and I'm told that access is denied. I don't use OneCare any more.
What is the easiest way to delete this old backup?

TIA

You must turn off file sharing for that folder before you can delete it

Probably my problem is that I have no Onecare installed on
this PC where I want to delete the old backup. I'll try to
work it out somehow. Thank you for your help.

No. I can't delete my old backup of OneCare from external drive
either from XP nor Vista. I suspect that this problem occurred
because these are my very first backups when my PC had
a different name at that time.

I tried all possible ways know to me and implemented your
instructions, but with no results.

None-the-less THANKS.

I'm considering reformatting the external drives, although it's not
essential at this moment, only annoying. But I'll try my best.
Thanks and cheers -

This is the way I always delete the back-up:
- Right click on the back-up folder,
- Click Properties,
- Click on the Security tab,
- Add "Everybody" to the list and give everybody full control,
- Choose the option to bring this permission over to the underlying
objects.

Now you should be able to delete the whole folder as Administrator.
