Users Rights Win XP???
"thehman" <thehman[ at ]ellisongroup.com> 12/17/2008 4:47:27 PM
Can I set the non admin account users on my computer running XP Pro to not
be able to access certain settings like the control panel, display
properties services. I tried the gpedit.msc but this takes access away from
admin
accounts as well. I only want to restrict access to the normal users. I have
set the %systemDrive% to read and execute only but I would like for the
users not to be able to even open the control panel. is this possible with
having a server running active directory or is active directory available on
xp pro? I found the snap in for users but i'm not seeing anything about
control panel access in that particular snap-in.

Hi - unless you're using Active Directory, any policy settings you put in
place will affect all users (this behavior changes in Vista).

For a standalone PC or workgroup PCs, check out Windows Steady State or Doug
Knox's XP security console -

You're most welcome. Do check out the Doug Knox console. It gets high marks.
