Find one you have or download one. Do 'open with' and pick a file to open a gif with. Make user the "always use this file" is unchecked for now. If the program works to open the file and you like its performance then do it one more time and this time just check the box and make it permanent.

The first thing to do is to decide what you want to do with the file--view it, edit it, etc.--and choose an appropriate program to do that. If you just want to view it, I recommend the free Irfanview. You can download it here: http://www.irfanview.com/main_download_engl.htm If you want to edit it, depending on what changes you want to make, your choices range from Paint (which is part of Windows) to many other choices you would have to buy. 2. Once you know what program you want to use, and have it installed, do the following to set the association: Do *not* go to Control Panel.
