Remove/delete an unresponsive program
"Justin Thyme" <Ken_Bland[ at ]Mindspring.com> 12/1/2008 11:27:54 PM
A few days ago my paid subscription to Ad-Aware expired and Lavasoft,
naturally, offered a renewal at the same price or I could subscribe instead
to a free version. When I attempted to subscribe to Ad-Aware Free nothing
worked properly so after several additional attempts I decided to delete
Ad-Aware altogether, using Add/Remove Programs and Ad-Aware's own uninstall
link. Failing that I tried a wholesale manual delete of everything that had
Lavasoft or Ad-Aware as part of the name. In every case the stumbling block
was a file named "aawservice.exe". The response was "access denied, disk
may be full or file is protected." Well, the disk certainly is not full and
I cannot see how the file is protected.

Safe Mode doesn't work any better and all my attempts have come a cropper.
So, what's my recourse now? I want to dump the entire program and then
decide if I would like to install the free version or something else.

Your suggestions gratefully received.

Have you stopped and disabled the aawservice?
run www.ccleaner.com

Thank you for the suggestion, but it only took an msconfig to stop Lavasoft
Ad-Aware from starting up. Problem solved.
