The setting under the "My Computer" properties refers to the fully qualified name of the system and the domain it has joined. The TCP/IP settings are for registering the system to DNS using this name. example: System name = wxpstation1 Damain name = contoso.com Join the contoso.com domain and the "My Computer" properties > more will show contoso.com The TCP/IP settings will not have an entry unless you add the entry which will register to a DNS server using the context you specify In other words I could join the contoso.com domain but under TCP/IP the DNS suffix will be empty until I specify how I want this system to register to DNS
