Blank Screen mwemdub 10/23/2008 5:18:01 PM My daughter has an Emacine with windows xp. One day she turned it on and the screen would just show wallpaper, no icons or bars. We can bring up task manager and I tried a few things to no avail. Does anyone have suggestions?

This reloads a Registry of some earlier date (your choice. Of course the user needed to have enabled System Restore in the first place. The Second Question of Windows Troubleshooting: what is the malware/virus status of the machine? If you think it is clean, what programs (and versions) did you use to determine this? Right click desktop , view , show icons . If she takes the cusor to the bottom of the screen , does the taskbar show ?

You say you checked balance, but did you check the speaker volume in Sounds and audio device properties. There is a slider for each channel. If that's okay, as others have said, all that's left is a motherboard audio hardware problem, considering internal and external speakers have the same missing channel.
