Media Player 11 does not open playlist in digital receiver
Vio B 10/12/2008 10:13:01 PM
Hi everybody.I have a sharing network problem: I have a Yamaha RX-V3800
Network receiver which I got connected through Ethernet to a SLing media
turbo to my wireless laptop. WMp 11 is communicating w/receiver but it will
not open any of my music files. Laptop is listed on receiver, as well as two
playlists I created, but that's it.when I press enter on receiver it lists the
playlist again but that's where I'm stuck.nothing else happens. Help please

There are several likely suspects listed on the media sharing FAQ :
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/faq/sharing.mspx#q20_14
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/faq/sharing.mspx#q20_15
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/faq/sharing.mspx#q20_16

Those include not having "Monitored folders" (see second link) and
having content which the device just can't play (see the device manual
for details on supported file types)

Also have a look at the section on "remote libraries" :
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/faq/sharing.mspx#q20_17

That *includes* content being on shared network disks, and often on
removable hard drives too.

I seem to remember 12-18 months ago several of the Yamaha receiver
models weren't compatible with WMP11 until they had a firmware update
using a flash disk supplied by a Yamaha dealer.

It's best to contact the dealer about that in the first instance,
because the firmware varies by region and sometimes by country.

The Yamaha support site is likely to have details about the affected
models now - at the time the list of devices was patchy and hard to
find but I expect they've fixed that by now.

HTH
Cheers - Neil
