Hello, it's been said in other windows News Groups that the recent update to Live Onecare is responsible for a multitude of problems with folks sending email with Windows Live mail.
Can anyone verify this and perhaps give explanation and fix for this problem?
Russ

There is a great deal of discussion, I say a great deal, it seems to have lessoned a bit, on the subject in Microsoft.public.windows.vista.mail as to the cause lately (the last 3 weeks) about sudden change in Vista's, Windows mail, where after an update to Onecare Windows Mail would not send email. I am experiencing this dilemma now. In fact, this is the second time it has occurred for me. It's been suggested it is the fault of Onecare. See error message:
"Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Subject 'w', Account: 'At&t mail server', Server: 'SMTP.att.yahoo.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 465, Secure(SSL): Yes, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F"
I don't have the ability to copy one News group to another. That may not even be legal, I don't know. Please find all the particulars under
Microsoft.public.windows.vista.mail
Look for threads started by me or others with regard to, being able to receive by not send email. There are several different threads on the subject going back 2-3 weeks.
Thank you for your interest,
Russ

http://get.live.com was one of the first things we tried. I've spent the bigger part of today finding a great deal of information on this subject and from the many threads that I have read from varying different places, it seems to be pointing in the direction of At&t/Yahoo as being at fault here. So far, their not owning up to it that I can find. I am fortunate to have access to two ISP's At&t/Yahoo, where the trouble seems to be and Earthlink.net. I have no problems with the same mail browser with Earthlink and worlds of trouble with At&t.
I pretty much run the gauntlet on what I have the ability to do. I may have to leave this issue up to others and just bide my time until At&t decide to own up to the problem being theirs.
Thanks Steve, I very much appreciate your taking the time to get involved. It's a haunting problem to say the least. Shame on the big boys for not finding and resolving this issue.
I did resolve one thing through this issue, I think I may enjoy using OneCare this next year. I've got my fingers crossed anyway.

Hey Steve, problem solved! It occurred to me that many of the folks complaining about this problem, at one time or the other, had used Norton and/or McAfee and were complaining also about how much crap the uninstaller left on their machines. I decided to take a look in the registry. Sure enough, there was a great deal of Norton/Symantec leftovers. I spent the better part of an hour cleaning up. Some of it I did not recognize, but in a risky move I cleaned out anything I thought related to my trial of Norton Anti-Virus. Well, I bet you guessed it.
Problem solved. I don't know, what specifically of the crap I removed, fixed the problem, but it was Norton related.
Interesting problem, interesting resolution, new friend.
Thanks Steve
