This is a continuation of a thread started on the onecare.install group.
To recap- An online safety scan <live.com> showed the trojan:win32/startpage.df but could not remove it, even in safe mode with networking. Also noted that automatic updates were grayed out.
Started a trial subscription to onecare. OneCare did not find any evidence of infection but the online safety scanner still did.
Started a service request and an agent from MS PCSafety was able to fix the automatic update issue. A subsequent scan with the online safety scanner showed startpage.df still there. Service request was closed by PCSafety.
Another service request was opened to fix the infection. Got an email from agent with instructions to boot to safe mode and how to run the onecare scanner in a dos window. this took almost 6 hours to complete and found nothing. A subsequent scan with the online scanner still showed the infection and again was unable to clean it.
The last service request is still open and the email stated to contact by reply email with service request in subject line if further help is required. I did this yesterday and still have not received a reply.
For what it's worth... Oppie <aka Robert Oppenheimer>
