anti Virus
"James Johnson" <jamesone[ at ]cableone.net> 12/12/2008 10:57:43 AM
Hi Everyone,

Are there any really good 64 bit anti virus programs? I've seen some that
are 32 bit but 64 bit compatible. But wondering if I could find a native 64
bit one if that would be better. Thanks for you help

Jim

James,
Avast (http://www.avast.com/index.html) is really good 64-bit native
Antivirus program.
There is even a free "home" edition available with most of the
"professional" edition available.
http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html
It is used and recommended by many regulars in this newsgroup.

James Johnson:
Not free, but reasonably priced, with very low overhead or small
footprint is "NOD32" from ESET.

I agree with Carlos, it is a good A/V. Due to the level at which they
operate they have to be 64-bit, but as Avast can have 32-bit components
(e.g. the GUI component ashdisp.exe).

I changed to Avast fairly recently as well, and so far have been very
pleased with it.

And it gets installed in "C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\" which
implies 64-bit.
:)
