If the HD shows are copy protected and you do a reinstallation, you'll lose the ability to watch that content, via the PC or Extender. As for the broken DRM chain, try re-running Media Center Setup and re-activating your Digital Cable tuners/CableCards. Part of that process is upgrading "security components", so it might just work without having to re-install.
