I have Vista Ultimate 32-but edition running on a notebook PC that has an
Intel T7500 processor. I am running Office 2007. Do I need Vista 64-bit?

I'm running 32 Bit Vista Ultimate on a 64 Bit machine. The reason I don't
install a 64 Bit operating system is because most of the software available
today isn't 64 Bit. Okay 32 Bit will run on 64 Bit hardware but 32 bit
software doesn't need a 64 Bit environment and certainly won't be able to
access the additional features of a 64 Bit system. Also 64 bit drivers are
not readily available for hardware.
Do you need to run 64 Bit Vista? No - not at the moment. Maybe when hardware
manufacturers start providing 64 Bit drivers.

From what I understand the OP is quite satisfied with Vista Ultimate. His
question was simply should he change from 32 bit to 64 bit. That question I
have answered. Why would he even bother with XP? I can understand your
comments if he had stated that Vista wasn't working for him, but 'it is'
working for him.

Yes, I have both Premium and Ultimate running flawlessly on two machines,
but in my 15 years with Microsoft I find that the previous operating
system-XP, is far easier, much more user friendly and also very tolerant of
user errors, I'm afraid the same cannot be said about Vista. As I have
stated in an earlier post, Vista is Microsofts biggest mistake ever. And at
this very moment, Microsoft are working on ANOTHER OS to replace Vista.

Yes, I agree, But Vista is not being supported by the major software
companies because it is so bug ridden, this is also true for many of the
major printer/scanner companies as well, they are refusing to write drivers
for Vista, and with the sales of XP outselling Vista by 3-1, vista will soon
be history. But as for "started work on the next OS" Microsoft have been
developing the new OS since just 2 months after the launch of Vista. They
could see even then that vista was a huge mistake. It is losing them
millions.
The new OS is based more on XP, although obviously it has a new look to it,
with a much more secure framework, It will include IE-8 but they have done
away with windows mail and opted for Outlook Express v10. PLUS it has the
added benefit that ALL XP software and hardware will be FULLY compatible.
Vista shall not be with us for much longer I can assure you. Microsoft are
getting ready to offer all those who have purchased vista and are able to
send them the original disk along with the correct activation code, a free
upgrade. Looking at it's progress, I would think it should be launched early
next year. The name they are toying with at the moment is Microsoft
X-Pression, wether or not they will call it that when it's finished remains
to be seen. I have a copy of it running on one of my PC's and to be honest
it is quite good. It certainly leaves vista standing in terms of speed and
ease of use. Plus it looks great, that I must admit. Myself, I am working on
the networking side of it, it has done away with all that crap that vista
has, and the networking interface/setup looks remarkably similar to
windows98 lol.

Question Vangellis.
If you are working on Windows 7 then surely, as all MVPs are, you are under
a Non Disclosure Agreement with Microsoft therefore you are not allowed to
mention the features on public newsgroups. (unless they have been made
public knowledge by Microsoft, not leaked)
As for Microsoft 'toying' with X-Pression for the new Windows 7 operating
system that is 'exactly' what XP stood for Windows XPression. |I cannot see
them using a name that in anyway resembles XP.
An MVP that broke the NDA would quickly be shown the door.

Notwithstanding the fact that Microsoft has openly claimed that the new one
will be based around Vista, and not XP as claimed by Vangelis. He seems to
be better at predicting the future than he is at reading the past..

Sorry Vangellis you have just lost your credibility. Microsoft is quite
capable of tracking your postings and locating your ISP source. Your blatant
disregard for the rules that Microsoft impose makes me wonder if indeed you
are even remotely connected with Microsoft. Why would they still use the
remnants of XP, why would they dump Windows Mail in favour of Outlook
Express they would be going backwards, not forwards.
From your original postings I had began to wonder if you wanted to add MVP
to your somewhat impressive list of credentials, but being a so called

I'm not in the slightest bothered about "credibility" although you seem to
think a few letters after your signature mean the world, they don't. They
mean nothing at all to the layman.
And as far as Microsoft tracking my location, even the FBI could not trace
my position. Do you honestly think I, or anybody else for that matter would
post exclusive news about Microsoft on here if I thought for one moment I
could be traced?
And you call yourself an MVP. If you are indeed a MVP then you should know
that by going through various proxy's and different servers using a hidden
ISP address in stealth mode would make it impossible to trace, especially if
you change your ISP address and use different proxies every few days like I
do.

My reference to credibility has nothing to do with the so called few letters
after your name. (You're the one with the string of credentials after your
name, not me). You gain credibility by posting honest, practical answers to
other posters questions/queries. I have gained my credibility over 8 years
as an MVP and am proud of my contribution to this and many other newsgroups.
I certainly don't have to hide behind a proxy server like you seem to
prefer. As for posting 'exclusive' news about Microsoft, you haven't posted
anything exclusive all you have done is told everyone that the new version
of windows is more than likely to be called X-Pression (Strange that
Microsoft should use a similar name to their current web/design software
'Expression')
I find it strange that, for someone who has worked for Microsoft for 15
years, you are quick to knock them and their current operating system. I
haven't yet spoken to a Microsoft employee who has openly disparaged any
operating system - yes they will say 'it has faults' but they wouldn't be
recommending users to go back to older version of the windows product range;
far from it, they would be asking 'what problems are you experiencing' and
trying to work through to a solution.
