Companyweb on our brand new SBS2008 apparently has stopped working. This has cut off access to Remote Web Workplace as well, which will be needed over the upcoming holidays.
Server was installed two weeks ago and Companyweb/RWW was working quite well. Last night the server was rebooted, and after that, Companyweb returns HTTP Error 503, The service is unavailable.
In IIS there are a couple App pools that apparently don't want to start up, including DefaultAppPool, SBS Sharepoint AppPool, SharePoint Central Administration v3, and WsusPool. I right click on them and start, a few minutes later they go to a stopped state.
In Event Viewer/Application I get the following errors: IIS-W3SVC-WP: The Module DLL C:\Windows\system32\RpcProxy\RpcProxy.dll failed to load. The data is the error. Windows SharePoint Services 3 Search: The update cannot be started because the content sources cannot be accessed. Fix the errors and try the update again. Context: Application 'Search', Catalog 'index file on the search server Search'
We really have -no- idea why or how this happened or how to get things going again. SBS2008 is a new beastie for us, and this new IIS management center is also completely foreign.
Any helpful ideas? Thanks, Mike Osborn michael[ at ]rabbitrecords.com

Are there any automatic services showing as "stopped"? There is one particular Terminal Services (TS) service that I occasionally have to start manually.

Hi Mike:
Can you post up the event id number and the source?

What was installed that required a reboot? It sounds like someone may have set up a web site that is interfering with the sites on the SBS box?

We have gone through all automatic services and made sure everything was started. Even started a few manual ones that may have seemed related as well.

Do the app pools actually start? Or do they fail to start? I'm wondering if you might have a permissions issue with the account(s) used to run those pools. What identity is being used for each pool?

I'd also bounce the box again and try and see if just rebooting fixes things.

How about a subsequent restart, has that been done? Or at least an IISRESET; which still works ;-). After an IISRESET, do check services though.

We brought it down to install a SCSI card to connect external tape backup, but we were sent the wrong card.

There are some App Pools that do start, they are running under Identity NetworkService, and under both Classic and Integrated. No passwords have changed so I couldn't imagine there would be a permissions problem?

Stranger things have happened. Try changing the identity on one of the app pools to Local System or your domain admin account and see if the app pool starts under an alternate identity.
Do you see any failures in the security log from the time you tried starting the app pools?

Small Business Server 2008 RpcProxy.dll | Welcome to Pariswells.com: http://pariswells.com/blog/?p=56
You sure that no software was installed? This acts like a classic case of some software mangling the .net stuff.
|
|
Go to Start , Type CMD , then Press CTRL , SHIFT and Enter to open the command prompt with Administrive Rights if not already logged in as administrator
Fire off these 2 Commands
cscript %SYSTEMDRIVE%\inetpub\adminscripts\adsutil.vbs SET W3SVC/AppPools/Enable32bitAppOnWin64 0 %SYSTEMROOT%\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v2.0.50727\aspnet_regiis.exe -i Restart ISS if needed
Report back and see if that helps.

After the first command: ErrNumber: -2147463164 (0x80005004) Error Trying To GET the Schema of the property: IIS://localhost/Schema/Enabled32 bitappOnWin64
Second command successful: Finished installing ASP.NET (2.0.50727).
Restarted IIS using iisreset. Still no change, remote workplace still non-functioning.
This is really bizzarre!
