I just installed XP today, and it gave me an option of minimum, typical, or custom features. I clicked minimum, but now want to see what I missed--how can I find them? I am new to this, please answer simply Thanks very much! I have XP Home.

Andywould,
Have a look at Control Panel/Add-Remove Programs/Add-Remove Windows Features.

I think you mean Windows Components not Windows Features.

Hope this helps.

Gery,
Gerry, if I'm incorrect, thank you for pointing it out. But I thought that's what Andywoul was asking for.
Please explain the difference between "features" and "components" to me.

The words mean much the same. When trying to help someone it is better to use the terminology they will see on their computer screen. The feature in Add' Remove Programs has been labelled by Microsoft "Windows Components". Often when posting in these newsgroups you cannot be sure whether English is the other person's first language so it helps to use words they see.

It's all in the naming. Since you were telling the OP where to find the extra features, you should really use the same names as the objects shown in the dialogs as seen by users when they navigate their way through them.
"Add or Remove Programs" -> "Add/Remove Windows Components" is what the user would see during the navigation. The newbie user asking for this info and who is unwilling to do their own research might end up looking for the "Add/Remove Windows FEATURES" that you mention but cannot be found in the dialogs. Twas a minor point and the OP probably would have figured it out.

Thanks to all of you! Features and components could be as different as honeybees and skyscrapers to Microsoft, but same same to me--I understand why the discussion occured here. It's a good thing to remember as I go on. So--when I look at the Add/Remove stuff, but am I seeing everything that was originally offered by the "typical" option? "VanguardLH" wrote:

You're quite right guys. Thanks for telling me. I went back and reread the post. Andywould wrote "...it gave me an option of minimum, typical, or custom features". When I answered him I used "features". Let's call it brain fade. Again thaniks for pointing it out.
