x32 Vista Ultimate Install
Shengokai <guest[ at ]unknown-email.com> 12/16/2008 5:49:20 AM
Hello. It's sad that my first post here on the forums is a problem... But here goes. I'm trying to install a fresh copy of Vista: Ultimate edition. The drive has been wiped clean, and everything was prepared. Right now, the install is hanging at the "Expanding Files" portion. It's been there for about 4 hours now. I'm running a AMD Athlon Black processor on a ASUS M3N78-VM motherboard. I'm trying to install to a Western Digital 250gig hard drive, with a 200 gig SATA as a back up. If it helps, I have a NVIDIA GEFORCE 9500 card in there for my graphics. -- Shengokai

Hi, Shengokai.

Whichever "forum" you posted your message to simply relayed it to the
Microsoft public newsgroups, which is where I'm reading it. (That forum
probably did not inform you that they would do this.) To cut out the
middleman, you could have posted directly to the MS NGs by clicking here:

MAYBE it's not hanging. Sometimes the install takes a lot longer than we
expect. A half-hour or more is not unusual, but I agree that four hours
does seem excessive. But, before giving up, if the HD lights are still
blinking and the computer seems to be doing SOMETHING, you might just let it
run overnight and see if you are greeted in the morning with the Vista
Welcome screen. And sometimes it works to just abort the installation, then
try again. Setup may be able to pick up where it left off and finish the
job.

You might need drivers for your motherboard or your hard drives. Did a CD
or DVD come with your hardware?
