How to sort out builds? (Installed OS v ISO v WPR log reported) a.k.a. 12/10/2008 9:16:10 PM Hello, I'm running into a bunch of issues around my Vista installation (and reinstallation options). I'm not currently asking for a fix, but let me give you the background in case you're interested. What I do need help with right now is one facet of the poblem -- and my questions are at the bottom. The first problem is that no reinstallation of WU components has been able to add updates as far back as July. I'm working with MS Update tech support about it. The KBs are KB952709 and KB955302. Build of installed OS 2. Build of your ISOs -- the build number that I can compare to the installed OS info. What on earth the OTHER build numbers are that I'm getting in the Windows Problem Reports about all of my WU errors: Is this showing me a component build number? My installed OS build number? Here's an example of the discrepancy I'm seeing -- It's a typical Windows Problem Reports and Solutions log. It gives two different OS version numbers. (See top, and bottom, of event report.) If the bottom build number is for the component, and corresponds to an earlier build, does that raise the possibility that there was a bug in that component that wasn't discovered prior to SP1's RTM? Not laying blame just yet, but I've tried absolutely everything in the book to set this installation back on track, and all of the malware scans have turned up negative too. a.k.a.
