I installed XP Pro it takes two hours to load
Pauleytc 12/27/2008 12:53:01 PM
After installing XP Pro to my rebuilt computer it takes two hours to load up
the desktop screen. I tried MSCONFIG in the Start/Run box only to get CANNOT
FIND. A new mother board installation, new video card, new processor and when
XP is installed I get crap. Can anyone help? Oh btw...I just bought new 80gig
harddrive because motherboard mfg said it was hard drive failure. Can the XP
SP3 disk be bad?
TP

You're in the wrong ball park. This forum is for 64-bit
Windows and you reference 32-bit Windows.

Leave the .64bit. out of the address and you should get to
the right ball park.

No, but the machine has a serious problem of some sort.

Though your machine may not run optimally without the proper chipset
drives...
that would not cause a 2 hour boot time.

I'd reset the mobo to default,
confirm you have sufficient RAM and that it's all detected...
and if you still have the problem...
I'd suspect the motherboard has some type of defect.

One thing you can do though
would be to try booting from a live Linux cd
(Damn Small Linux is just a 50 meg download)

If that takes more than 5 minutes to bootup
you can at least eliminate the OS and HD as a culprit

Try booting in Safe mode and see how long it takes, you can also see if it
is hanging on any system driver loading. If that goes normally, you
probably have a driver hanging. Try running in low resolution mode,
whatever the XP version is, and finally you can remove any unnecessary
hardware and see if that speeds it up. Also change 64bit to XP to get the
correct group for your posts.
