No ms fax events in XP SP3 anymore?
"constructor" <ngr[ at ]*REMOVE*zollondz.de> 12/23/2008 12:16:55 PM
Hello NG

Years ago I wrote a little prgramm that monitors the activity of MS Fax
Service.
To do that, I simply extracted the events belonging to Fax Service from the
event log
and stored the description of the action taken place in a separate file. In
case of an error
the users could look into this text file to see what went wrong. This
programm worked well
with Win2000 for years.
When my customer switched to WinXP, the event IDs where different and had to
be replaced,
but after that the programm worked well again.

Today I installed this programm on a new customers PC running with XP SP3
and the fax log stays empty!
In the event log I can't find any Fax event entry, so my programm can't
extract any. As well I didn't find
a means to tell the fax service how deep the event information has to be
stored.

Did I miss something that is different now, or does MS Fax Service gave it
up to store events in the event log?

Best regards and TIA

Uwe

Hello NG,

I found it out myself.
For some reasons I don't know, the fax service event logging seem to be
switched off by default. But I can
activate it via the FaxEventLoging Object described here
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms684912(VS.85).aspx

Thanks for reading

Regards

Uwe
