It is trying to check for updates to software that is already installed on your machine. If you don't want to check for updates constantly hide the notifications area icon and block it in the firewall. However sometimes the updates are important security updates that you might want to install. I just allow it to check all the time on a Dell laptop which came with too much preinstalled software.
