Win xp Pro 64 bit
Matthew 11/13/2008 1:26:01 AM
Hi

I built a new computer installed win xp pro 64 bit edition. Everything was
fine.

I decided to format my hard 3 months later.

I could not get my cd to load from boot. I set up bios to load from cd, I
tried my F8 function from load which allows me to choose cd rom. Every
possible way and it will not load my cd. If I set bios to just load cd rom
from boot and turn off hard drive/usb/floppy etc. It says it is unable to do
so... I forget exact figure of speech right now, but I can get it if
necassary.

I have also tried to make a dos boot dik to format hard drive from dos, but
I have been unable to do so because I dont have a floppy drive installed. I
heard rumours that you can not have win 32 bit installed when installing 64,
so thats why I was trying that.

PLEASE HELP ME!

My computer is completely compatiable for 64 bit. What is going on?

I know have win xp home edition 32 bit installed for teh mean time.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

If you were able to install XP-32 bit OK
then the answer is simply that your cd is either dirty or cracked.

As long as you are sure it boots fine from the other CD...it;s a simple as
that.

You may be able to get a replacement from Microsoft
if hour's is too badly damaged

Windows 64 will install just fine when Windows 32 is installed. However, you
must install each OS to either separate drives or, at the least, different
partitions. After installing the 32 bit system (if not already installed),
boot from the Windows 64 DVD, install to a different drive or partition from
the 32 bit system. There are tools on the DVD that facilitate creating that
partition if it is not already set up.

That aside:

Since you say you previously set up the 64 bit system and If you could
install the 32 bit system, there would seem to be nothing wrong with the
hardware that would prevent installing the 64 bit system. Despite the fact
that your friend's medial gave the same result, I suspect either a faulty
DVD or possibly the DVD/CD drive needs cleaning. A DVD places greater
demands on the unit than a CD. SO, try cleaning the lens assembly
(instructions available on the web), clean the DVD and try again. Also, it
would be worth burning another DVD (if you have the appropriate ISO file) or
getting a replacement DVD from Microsoft (if a retail copy) or the OEM
source of your original.

Did you install all drivers from the system CD, the one that comes along
with the Motherboard? There is usually a driver that sets up your IDE/SATA
subsystem - now, sometimes this CD only contains 32bit drivers, and if you
installed those your system will be seriously damaged ( from the software
point-of-view).

You must make sure that you have 64bit drivers for everything!

Matthew,
Make yourself the following questions
1.- Are you trying to reinstall XP x64 on the exact same hardware
configuration you had 3 months ago?
2.- If the answer is no, can you recreate that situation again?
3.- Have you tested your CD/DVD drive in other PC? It looks as if it were
faulty.
4.- Have you tested a good known CD/DVD drive in your PC (borrowed, stolen,
whatever!)?

Hi,
Try starting with the empty drive to boot,
when the machine is starting, not too early and not too late, hit your eject
button and put in your cd

may be then it is better detected.
