System Services
SDSE 12/10/2008 5:27:01 PM
Is it possible to modify a local service so that it starts up as a system
service.. I am running XP 64 bit and have an application that lags to
startup when the user logs in and I was hoping i could modify it to start
with the system instead of local login.

Any ideas??

Depends on the service. Some will allow running from a non-console system
account, some won't. And there security implications as well. To change a
service, open services.msc, click on the service, right-click for
properties, click on the Log On tab, and select local system account.

Some services will not operate correctly without a login. If yours won't,
you'll have issues.
