XP 64-bit
Thehman 11/26/2008 3:56:01 PM
I'm trying to decide if i should buy this edition to save me in the long run.
is is worth it to have this version. I totally have the hardware for it but
not sure about things like driver compatability software compatability. so
you guy tell me is worth it to have the 64-bit editon for later down the
road.

Do you plan on installing 4 gig or more of memory on your computer? If so,
maybe. Depends on whether you really need that much memory and your
programs will use it. Only you can do the research about your driver and
software situation.
What are your other options? Vista64 is a very good system. For me,
though, not as stable as XP64.

My GF is a very heavy Photoshop user

so I built her a machine about 2 1/2 years ago

Runs XP-64 and I must say it's been working ***flawlessly*** the entire
time.

Just check first to see if drivers are avail...
but she's never had a problem yet.

There is X64 and the 64 bit version of Vista. You would probably want
to use vista at this point. I'm using X64, but I built the PC a few
years ago. However, I think there are nuances to how much RAM each OS
can use.

It is important that the mobo can do two things. One is the memory
remap. The other is check the limit on how much ram the mobo can
hold.

I built a linux 64 bit PC a few months ago with the Asus M3N78 Pro
with 8Gbytes using a Quad Core AMD chip. Thus far, it is rock solid.
As you put more ram in the mobo, they specify lower speed memory. This
is probably due to capacitive bus loading. So technically you do pay a
price as you put more RAM onboard, but almost all the time, more RAM
is better.
