Computer logs out immediately after logging in

I have a computer that unfortunately is 1000 mls away from where I am at
vthe moment, but when I go there at Christmas I need to get it up and
running as I earn my living on it.

As soon as I log in it starts tload settings then immediately logs out
again. I'm suspecting the only way is a windows (XP Home Edition) reinstall,
though the computer was given to me by a neighbour and I don't think I have
the original disks.

Is there another way to repair it?

This is really impossible to answer with so little information. However,
without having the correct XP install disk you will be hampered. If it is
an OEM machine, contact them and see if they have a Restore Disk available.
HP, for instance, has them for very little money (~$20). If this isn't an
OEM machine, then purchase a retail copy of XP Home from your favorite
online store. NewEgg or Amazon are good. Or have a friend make a copy of
their XP Home disk for you to use for repair purposes (obviously you can't
install with this unless you have kept a record of your Product Key). Note
that it must be the same type as what is installed on your computer; e.g.,
XP Home OEM, XP Home retail.

1. 1,000 mi. away
2. earn your living on it
3. freebie from neighbor & no disks
4. Got the COA & other keycodes needed?

A. You seem to be running all your neighbor's malware AND problems, PLUS
your own! You need to back up and completely rebuild that machine and
then institute a periodic backup schedule that works.

B. If you have the COA, the disk will be a little cheaper. GET THEM!
c> If you don't have the COA, GET a retail copy of the OS and bring it
with you when you go there.
Completely rebuild the machine and put it back into service.

Until you at least get everyting updated (SP3) and completely rebuilt
properly, this is only the beginnings of your problems.

IMO anyway,

Twayne
